ACT Scores Prove Standardized Tests Show Nothing

Today is a big day for ACT scores. The February 1912 test date has come and gone and today is the day for many to get their scores from that test. I remember well the pins and needles I felt the day I got my SAT and ACT scores, but with a little luck, my own children - currently 2.5 and 4 - will never have to deal with that stress. The fact is, standardized tests are overrated.

Do not believe me? Consider this: There are currently more than 800 schools in the U.S. that there is either no roads or paths standardized test scores in a way that something non-traditional. In fact, some of the top liberal arts schools in the country - Colby, Bowdoin, Bates, Middlebury, and Bryn Mawr among others - are now accepting students with some variation of the test optional.
Good on them. Because the fact is, standardized tests prove nothing.
"There is a growing body of research showing that the SAT / ACT not very useful," said Robert Schaeffer, public education director of the National Center for Fair and Open Testing (Fair Test), a non-profit interest group dedicated to studying the bias inherent in standardized testing.
Approximately 1.3 million high school students take the Educational Testing Service Sat each year, according FairtTest. It is the most widely used college entrance exam and is designed for first year students to predict college grades.
But according to fair test, but often misses the mark. College females generally do better than college men in both high school and college still, in 2009 alone, 69 percent of test-takers with a perfect (800) math scores were men, according to the Executive Board of the statistics.
As schools move away from standardized tests, which really only proves how well students take tests, they are weighing other things - things that probably more - heavier. Some schools require an essay and graduated high school many art institutions, technical institutes and conservatories - Juilliard, Berklee College of Music - look at portfolios that showcase talent heavily on test scores.
Given how easy it is to coach SAT scores, it makes much sense. I took my SAT scores up from a 1100 to a 1300 high school just by learning a few little tricks on testing. I was suddenly smarter? No, I just knew that their little tricks a little better. How does that really prove anything, but how good I test?
If you have your ACT scores today and you're disappointed, take heart. There are many schools quickly learn what a crock standardized testing really is. And good luck.
What about standardized tests?
